Batam (gokepri) – Head of Batam Free Trade and Free Port (BP Batam), Muhammad Rudi, is optimistic about the increasing investment in Batam as they plan to develop Rempang Island as a new economic zone. The island will be turned into a green and sustainable city that will serve as the new engine of Indonesia’s economic growth. The plan is to develop the island as an industrial and tourist area with a green zone that prioritizes conservation.
During the launch of the Program Pulau Rempang Development on April 12, 2023, Rudi explained their development plan for the island. He also revealed that the island will have a bird park, a historical zone, and an agro-tourism area that will take advantage of the island’s natural resources. The target investment for the island is Rp381 trillion, and it will provide direct employment for 306,000 people.
“We have prepared a development plan to make the best use of the area. Thanks to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs for supporting investment growth in Batam,” Rudi said in his presentation, which was attended by the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.
Rudi hopes that the development of Rempang Island will have a positive impact on the region’s economic growth. Batam is the most influential area for the Kepri Province’s economic growth, with a 6.84% achievement throughout 2022.
“I hope that the acceleration of Rempang’s development will also have a positive impact on regional economic growth,” Rudi said. During the launch, Rudi received the HPL (Land-use Rights Certificate) for the Rempang area from the Indonesian Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning. He also handed over the development plan to PT Makmur Elok Graha (MEG), the developer for the area.
Rudi has high hopes for the development of Rempang Island and expects PT Makmur Elok Graha to accelerate the development of the island, enabling it to provide a positive impact on Batam’s economic growth. With the support of related ministries and institutions, BP Batam aims to achieve the island’s development, which will be supported by renewable energy.
The Minister of Coordinating Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, expressed his appreciation for the success of BP Batam in increasing investment and economic growth in the province.
Airlangga also encouraged BP Batam to continue to support investments and turn Batam into a center for investment in Indonesia. “Pulau Rempang’s development is potential for increasing future investment realization,” Airlangga said. “I want Batam to shine like Singapore. Make Batam the center of investment in Indonesia.”
