Batam, Indonesia (goekpri) – Thiess, a global mining services provider, has opened a new rebuild centre in Batam, Indonesia. The facility, which is located in the Kabil Integrated Industrial Estate, will provide a range of services for mining vehicles, including overhauls, repairs and new builds.

The opening ceremony was attended by Muhammad Rudi, the head of the Batam Development Authority (BP Batam); Penny Williams PSM, the Australian ambassador to Indonesia; Michael Wright, the executive chair and CEO of Thiess; and other members of the Thiess Group.

Rudi thanked Thiess for choosing Batam as the location for the rebuild centre. He said he hoped that the facility would help to boost mining investment in the city.

“We hope that this investment from Australia will not be the first, but that there will be other Australian companies that will invest in Batam,” Rudi said.

Williams also expressed her pleasure at attending the opening of the Thiess rebuild centre. She said that the investment was a sign of the strong economic ties between Australia and Indonesia.

“This investment reflects the very close relationship between Indonesia and Australia,” Williams said. “I will also be visiting other Australian companies such as Austin Engineering and others. I am very happy to be here and to be welcomed by Mr. Rudi.”

The Thiess rebuild centre is expected to create hundreds of jobs in Batam. The facility will also help to reduce the environmental impact of mining by extending the lifespan of mining vehicles.

“The Thiess rebuild centre is a perfect demonstration of how we can leverage our global expertise and come together to provide sustainable solutions for our clients’ operations, as well as deliver asset management services to the mining sector globally,” Wright said.
